Well, it's been a few weeks so I figured it's time for another post. I hope I'll get better about posting more often, but this blog is really just for my benefit, so who really cares?
We just finished one project, we're in the process of another and planning yet a third! This post will be the details about the first (and our first ever project in the new house).
Project #1: A hall tree!
I am so happy with how it turned out. This was my husband's first attempt at woodworking and I'm pretty impressed! It looks like it was always there. The whole process didn't take two long. Just a couple of weeks. It even has a little secret... a hidden cat door!
It's right inside the far right cubby. It leads into our laundry room where Misty's litter box is kept. It allows us to close the laundry room door so we don't have to hear the washer and dryer or see the mess that's going on in there, but she can still get in. She's a pro at using her little door. Here's the other side (from inside the laundry room).
The first step of building the wall tree was to build the bench and cubbies on the bottom.
Then we put it into place and replaced the baseboard.
The next step was putting up the framing and beadboard for the middle section. Once that was in place the top cubbies were built and mounted on top of the framing.
Once the crown molding was up it was ready for caulking, paint and the hooks! Not too hard! Here's the finished product...
Then just to make it more homey, my amazingly talented husband upholstered a cushion for the bench seat. From scratch! Piping and all! (I picked out the fabric :D)
The project we're working on now (and almost finished with) is a new rustic dining room table! I'll be back with more about that project later. Knowing my track record, it'll probably be another couple weeks. Its worth it though!
And now I'll close out with a very cute picture of our precious little kitty, Misty! (Yes, I'm turning into a cat lady after only having one cat)
